In response to defining a personal "sense of place":
Autism is commonly known as a condition that affects social capability, but it takes on a much deeper role in my life. My younger brother, Miles Nathaniel Yin, has low-functioning autism and we have never been able to communicate with each other. It has always seemed like Miles was living in his own world, even though we live and grew up in the same house together.
My inspiration for this project was found in the sense of place, or distance, I feel in relation to Miles. I wanted to reimagine the schism between us into garments from my interpretation of our relationship.
